Angst. Angst war es wohl, die sich von deinem flauen Magen aus in deinem ganzen Körper ausbreitete. Genau dieses Gefühl von unmittelbarer Gefahr liess dich zuerst noch unruhig werden und
deinen Puls rasen. Längst ist dies vorbei. Die Angst wurde zu Wahn.
Und der Wahn wandelte sich in Resignation und Depression.

Genau diesen Gefühlswandel, diese giftige Mixtur aus Zorn, Angst und Depression findet sich auf dem neusten Werk der schon gestandenen Formation Scythe. Wenn es bei den Norddeutschen langsam vorangeht, scheint die Resignation und die Trauer als passivstes aller Gefühle Überhand zu nehmen. Doch immer wieder lassen Death und Black Metal Bormardemente die Resignation im Nichts stehen, stellen sie vollständig in ihren urschwarzen Schatten.

Nicht zu vergessen sind klassische Heavy Metal Exkurse, die dich als
Hörer von "Poetry of Illusions" wieder in eine bodenständigere Welt
begleiten, fern ab von dissonanten Klängen, wie sie nicht selten auf
"Poetry of Illusions" zu finden sind. Diese sehr gut eingesetzten
Geistesblitze lösen ähnliche Emotionen aus, wie sie ein Mensch
zwischen Angst und Wahn verspüren muss.

Die cleanen, depressiven Gesänge, die neben Kreischen und
Sprechgesang häufig auftreten, sind recht gewöhnungsbedürftig. Hat
man sich allerdings daran gewöhnt, versetzen sie einem in tiefe
Trauer.

An Ideen voller Aggression, die sich in präzisen Trommelattacken
manifestieren, mangelt es den Deutschen ebenfalls nicht. Auch durch kreative Nuancen, beispielsweise orientalisch angehauchte Riffs beim Titelsong oder den exzellenten Song "late summer", der nicht nur durch geniale Melodien, sondern auch Breaks und eine spannende Songstruktur glänzt, beweisen Scythe, dass sie ihr Handwerk mehr als nur verstehen.

Scythe sind daher für mich ohne in die Übertreibungskiste zu greifen
eine der interessantesten Bands die sich im Genre des melodischen Black und Death Metals tummeln. Sie verstehen es Melodie, Emotionen und die Ruhe der Natur zu vereinen und dies schon seit 1994, auf einer stets steigenden Tendenzkurve. Darum räumen sie mit "Poetry of Illusions" satte 11 Punkte ab.

It's impressive how the musicians manage to provide even the most aggressive song with a rousing, super catchy melody that eats into your ears and encourages you to run the record through the system for another round. Excellent early demo work by the German 80's thrash band. Stephan
